Are you thinking about changing the flooring in your home?  There are so many options to choose from these days, but what about laminate flooring?  Is this a good option?

As with any decision, its wise to look at the pros and cons.

Some of the pros are that laminate flooring is generally easy to install.  It’s also cheaper than some other flooring types, which means you can change the look of an entire room for a relatively low cost.

There are also many different looks to choose from.  Most of these looks come under what would be considered a hardwood look, but you can also choose from styles like marble and granite effect.

Laminate is installed with different layers, and as with real hardwood flooring, multiple panels or pieces fit together to form the entire floor.  Laminate is usually constructed of fiberboard with a melamine resin.

Some of the cons to using this type of laminate flooring is that the melamine resin contains the chemical formaldehyde.  It is possible, however, to find products that contain less toxins.

For various reasons its possible that this floor type could shift or move.  Its also important to note that if the subfloor has a lot of moisture or even if there is some kind of leak, the laminate could warp or buckle.

To summarize then, while laminate flooring can be a great choice due to its various style options and lower price, make sure that the floor you are installing It on is in good order and do your research to make sure it’s done correctly.
